Bulgaria Top Holiday Destination in 2010


A recent article in Scottish main newspaper “The Scotsman” placed Bulgaria on 4th place in the top 10 travel destinations for 2010.On the first 3 places are resp. KYOTO, MOROCCO and SOUTH AFRICA. The other recommended travel places are 5 ISTANBUL, 6 NEPAL, 7 EL SALVADOR, 8 NICARAGUA, 9 SURINAME (South America’s smallest country), 10 ICELAND.

We are pleased to see Bulgaria on the list with the top 10 travel destinations and number 4 is a an excellent position for our small country. Current population of Bulgaria is 7. 6 Mio people as of Dec 2008, just for comparison the population of Istanbul is 12.7Mio people.

“The Scotsman” determines Bulgaria as “Europe’s best-kept secret” thanks to the 45 years of communism in the country. The newspaper is praising the beautiful nature of Bulgaria with its mountains and the long coastal line. As a family holiday location they recommend the beach resorts in Bulgaria and especially the resort of Sunny Beach.

Bulgaria is a democratic country since 1989 and major improvement in the standard of life has been recorded since then. Bulgaria first came on the radar for foreign property investments in the period 2003 – 2004. This started an incredible building boom and many new holiday developments were built and also steadily increasing numbers of foreign tourists has been seen since.

The resort of Sunny Beach has been expanded enormously in the past few years with new hotels, apartment buildings and many purpose-built smaller resorts inside and in the surroundings. The resort is a home of over 800 hotels and more than 300 000 beds. It has hundreds of restaurants and bars and a night clubs for every taste.
